So, as dive into the summer of pondering and considering the beginnings of the church in the book of Acts, let's think on ascention for a spell.
The first section of Acts finds Jesus speaking some words to his Disciples and then- like the last scene in the original Matrix... go ahead, watch it again if you hadn't made the connection- he is "Taken up before their eyes."
Now, should we have some serious problems with ascention? Where is Jesus? He's physically resurrected, albeit in some sort of new walk through walls, unrecognizable to his friends physicality, but an eating drinking, touching sort of physicality. So, is he watching over us from the stratosphere? Maybe his new physicality includes the power of not having to breath, nor being consumed while passing through the atmosphere to his new home out in the universe somewhere?
If we understand the Kingdom to ultimately be on earth, where did Jesus go and why?
We've talked about the three tiered view of the unvierse in which the ancients thought the heavens above to be good (Heaven), the earth to be sort of neutral (where man made his way), and below to be the abode of the dead (bad). So, since we now know this not to be litterally true, is the ascention story litterally a story about Jesus going up soemwhere?
Just about 30 questions for us to ponder together since it's been a while since the last blog post.
