Intersection of Canvas and Prayer

Last week we looked at how and why we return to, place value upon, and study the text of the bible. The scriptures hold for us a unique view of the "theo-historical" Jesus (my wording), meaning, they help us to know the historical Jesus of the text, as well as the theological implications of the God we meet in Jesus. We talked about studying the text through the lenses of mirror (the reader), window (the past), and Canvas (the text)- which is the textual study metaphor with which we hope to engage and be transformed by the scriptures. So, this week, we move past the theory of study and background, and actually dive into the Canvas of the text of the Lord's Prayer in Luke's gospel, asking good questions, studying well, and hoping to meet God in the scriptures, and be transformed by the humanizing message. We'll try to deal with text in a way that takes seriously our confusion and frustration with prayer, as well as the understanding of its power and place for the community of faith. If you have time, reflect on this text, maybe share insights, and ask questions on the blog. Perhaps they can drive some of the teaching. If you have questions about how to register for the blog, post, or access any other info on the Website, contact Ben@thecanvaschurch.com. Be well, stay healthy in this apparent flu pandemic, and know that we are in prayer for one another, our faith community, and the culture, of which we are an important part.
