How about that amazing gathering Sunday night?! Pics here
We had a great time, great weather, some intense time for reflection, self examination, and a challenge to embrace the world with the acceptance and compassion that Jesus articulates for all. We talked about the good news that the Kingdom of God- the New Humanity that Jesus comes to announce and demonstrate is for everyone! As we examined the beatitudes, we realized that, not only are they not entrance requirement for heaven when we die, but they extend an invitation to shalom... to alignment with the health, wholeness, peace, and life of God right now!
If you haven't yet, check out the last blog and share your thoughts on the contemporary beatitudes.
If you felt like the teaching ended abruptly, you're not alone. We shared something central to how we feel called to be church. The sermon is the first word, not the last. This should be educational, inspiring, and challenging. It should result in dialogue, discussion, and unpacking the implications of the text for our lives and the life of the community and world.
So, we decided that we're going to create space after our gatherings for further dialogue over food! Starting this week, please bring a pot luck dish to share with others. If it needs to be hot or cold, you're responsible for cooler, crock pot, etc. Let's break bread and continue to grow together.
This week we continue the teachings of Jesus with one of our favorites,
"GET OFF YOUR ASS AND LOVE YOUR NEIGHBOR!"
