The Faces of Children at Risk

I have had the privilege of leading a camp this week at Auburn, Al where high school students have been engaging in social justice, service, and tangible redemption. We've been doing lots of work with some amazing at risk kids. One girl, Shanti, saw her aunt gunned down in a drive by last year, she's six years old. Justin's dad is in prison for "doing stuff" to a kid, and Justin says, "he's never coming home". Junior lives in a house where mom's rarely around, dad's in jail, and the guys are in and out to take advantage of his mom, but he never knows how long or if they'll stay around. Yet, as we said last week, in the midst of all of this, we've been given the supreme privilege of serving and loving these kids, and we've gotten to see God in and through them.
