Hey everyone,
This week we asked some of these questions and used them to stimulate discussion. Our dialogue was about our decision to move out of our meeting space at the Caffe. We discussed our decision to move in terms of serving the new Caffe business, avoiding exclusion, and not adopting an authority based on status, coercion and entitlement, but on peace and generosity instead. If you don't know about what's going on, or if you'd like more info, engage in the community and ask someone. Or, ask for more info by e-mailing info@thecanvaschurch.com.
The passages we are referring to are Jesus' response to the disciples question about who is the greatest, and a question about how we live in a specific system without becoming children of that system. We also looked at Jesus remarks about worship spaces and holy sites in John chapter 4.
As we think about the impulse behind this Question, “Who is the greatest?”, can we see our decision to move on to be a reflection of humility and servant hood?
How- living in a system defined in large part by selfishness, accumulation, individualism and fear- do we respond differently? Let’s ask it like this, though we may feel entitled, defensive for space, afraid about the future, can we agree that our action in this circumstance says something clear about how we understand the way of Jesus?
How does Jesus declaration about categories like holy sites, location, gathering places, and buildings being obsolete, in John 4, come to bear on our current situation, and our future as a community?
